If you're anywhere between Los Angeles and St. Louis this fall and happen to spot five Elvises towing a keg of beer, there's no need to check yourself into an institution. You're not hallucinating – you've just been lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Drunk Elvises, who will be racing their custom beer keg on wheels, "Hound Dog," at Red Bull Soapbox Race. "We really don't have a lot going for us, so we see this as a chance for glory," says Rusty Sanchez, team spokesperson. After pausing to twitch his lip, he continues, "We have competed in the Malibu Slosh Box Derby the last two years and have not won, so we think this is our opportunity." Perhaps Sanchez is too modest. Although his swivel-hipped team didn't have the fastest time at the box-car contest in Malibu, they were nonetheless featured in the Slosh Box movie that won the 2006 Malibu Film Festival, and their "unique" style earned them some face time on the G4 Network. What's more, they possess technical skills learned in restoring classic cars, as well as performance chops honed by playing in a punk band. "We will become an instant crowd favorite in St. Louis," Sanchez predicts. "Everyone loves Elvis."
