GONE FISHIN'
Garage Headquarters: Snohomish, WA
Driver: Greg Lamb
Mechanics: Jack Lamb, Jessica Lamb, Holly McKinley
Nuts and Bolts:
Greg Lamb and his fiancée, Holly McKinley, had a choice: they could spend two weeks roaming the bucolic backroads of Italy this fall, or they could devote a weekend to exploring St. Louis – particularly the downhill sections of Forest Park. Guess which they chose?
Greg is quick to justify the decision. "My competitive desires were not sated by 14 years of NASCAR short-track racing experience," he confesses. "Forced into early retirement by a multiple sclerosis diagnosis, I have a giant hole in my psyche only to be filled by piloting a nine-foot-long, gravity-powered, aluminum salmon in a race against a guy in his father's La-Z-Boy on shopping cart wheels." It must be true love – or certifiable insanity – on Holly's part, because she's thrown her passport in a drawer and is behind her man all the way, as are his dear relatives and teammates Jack and Jessica Lamb. To compete in Red Bull Soapbox Race, the crew will be making a 2,000-mile trek from Washington State; which, come to think of it, is just a short hop compared to crossing the Atlantic. Besides, if they win, they can take the prize money and fly to Italy in First Class.
