KEXP Derby Dashers
Garage Headquarters: Seattle, WA
Driver: Chris Myer
Mechanics: Lorn Davies, Peter Koplesh, Clark Hurlbut
Nuts and Bolts:
The popular eclectic music station KEXP 90.3 FM is what brought this four-person team together (they are all volunteers at the public station). Eclectic is the key word here. You see, according to team captain Chad Syme, it’s more than just their philandering ways that bond them: “We all have the letter “C” somewhere in our name and C is for “Cookie” and we all like cookies…weird huh?”
The KEXP Derby Dashers aren’t revealing much about their soapbox, which is fittingly inspired by “the speed of sound.” They claim the soapbox building process takes place at local resident Bill Gate’s carport, but no one outside the team can get past security to verify. Regardless of what the craft may be, the show promises to be encore worthy. “It’s going to be ROCKIN! We’ve got a choreographer putting together our routine. It will be a launch performance not to miss.” Syme, a graphic designer and the team’s pilot, hints of “partial nudity, cartwheels (lots of them), big moustaches, firm handshakes, holding babies, promising people whatever they want, cute bunnies, charisma and our dashing good looks.”
