What’s most interesting about The 5th Dentist team may not be the subject of their soapbox ? “a combination of Sherlock Holmes mystery stories and the sheer terror of going to the dentist” ? but rather the scattered collection of crew who comprise it. With professions and hobbies like geographic information services developer, bicycle designer, film producer, professional poker player, martial artist, dragonboat racer, and professional gadfly, The 5th Dentist team certainly is dinner party conversation worthy.
But the hardest part of the job for team leader Paul Bailey, the geographic specialist, is actually pulling everybody together from different points of the globe (from along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, from Hollywood, and from points unknown): “Who knows where Ed (the professional gadfly) is, I think the last time we checked he was in Egypt. Or maybe it was Ethiopia. Or was it Ecuador? I’m sure he will find his way back in time.” So you ask, what brought these dental-fearing souls together in the first place? “I think it must have been as a result of passing around a bottle of tequila on a train heading up to Machu Picchu … or maybe that is a memory from a previous life,” Bailey recalls.
