Nuts and Bolts:

As Northwest natives, Tim Custer, Jason Fujioka, Glen Thompkins and Vince Wintermute knew they wanted to enter a soapbox car that would be signature to Seattle. What better way to represent the Emerald City than a ferry boat? As soon as the idea splashed into their heads, the foursome have been wading in steel, wood and foam core board.

The team of middle-aged men, some of whom have known each other since grade school, are constructing their depth-defying dream machine in a secret lab high atop Mountlake Terrace. While they have never competed in a Red Bull event before, Custer is quick to answer when asked what Soapbox Race means to team Debacle: “Ingenuity, speed and danger.” The local hopefuls plan to win over the crowd on September 29th with their noise level, bright shiny costumes and flashing lights –but they admit they most likely will not dance. Who knows, though, as Soapbox Race tends to bring out that special spirit in folks…
