Nuts and Bolts:
When it comes to racing experience, here’s one team that’s light years ahead of the competition. Team member Mike Boedecker of the wildcard winning Apolocolyptic Rust Rockets explains that the group has total confidence in their driver, Mike’s son Todd Boedecker, due to his sweet go-kart skills: “racing 70 miles per hour at one inch off the ground with a gas tank between his legs is just a warm up to flying down Fremont Avenue in the Rust Rocket.” The family duo has been nuts about cars for years now. The elder of the two has restored several antique autos and is currently working on a ’32 Ford roadster hot rod.
Still, the Boedecker boys and teammates Jacob Ellul-Blake and Jason Herndon know that the fuel-free Red Bull Soapbox Race brings a new twist to their racing expertise so they decided to bring a little Science Fiction them to the mix - their craft’s inspiration is a blend of the movie Mad Max and Serenity. Their Rust Rocket will be “a rolling work of metal and angst that will either break the speed record down Fremont Avenue, or self-destruct trying,” as Todd puts it. “We’re already proven winners, having taken the wild card position. Now it’s time for us to step up and seize the glory that’s rightfully ours!”
