Tropic Island Snow: The Hawaiian Bobsled Team
Garage Headquarters: Honolulu, Hawaii
Driver: Samual Alton
Mechanics: Bryan Sundance Whiter, Tyler Rambeau, Dan Richards
Nuts and Bolts:
Team Tropic Island Snow faces more challenges than your average Red Bull Soapbox entry. First, they need to figure out how to create a working soapbox racer that is also a working volcano. (It seemed like a good idea when they were brainstorming; but undoubtedly there will be a lot of sleepless nights leading up to the science fair…uh, race.) Then, once they’ve perfected the geographic features of their car, they’ll need to transport it 2,500 miles from their base in Honolulu to the starting line in San Francisco. These teammates are up for anything, however; especially if it involves “shenanigans and debauchery.”
Sam Alton, Tyler Rambeau, Dan Richards, and Bryan Sundance Whiter are students at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. Collectively, they’re involved in student government and the Omicron Zeta Chapter of Kappa Sigma, as well as the Bryan Sundance Whiter Fan Club, a group started by Bryan himself that just happens to have the largest membership of any organization on campus. Tyler is another example of the team’s work hard, play hard mentality. One minute he’s riding a bicycle from Texas to Alaska to raise money for cancer research, and the next he’s getting fourteen stitches in his face from falling down during a romantic escapade in a dorm closet. Yes, with young men like these, our future is in good hands. But the outcome of the Red Bull Soapbox Race is very uncertain.
