First Step - select a team:

Team Pyramid Power

Garage Headquarters: San Francisco, CA

Driver: Paul McKenzie

Mechanics: Cynthia Mather, Suzan Canli, Simon LehBohn

Nuts and Bolts:

As an architect by trade and a Red Bull Soapbox Race driver by avocation, Paul McKenzie took it upon himself to choose one of San Francisco’s landmark buildings as the springboard for his group’s theme. “Of all the iconic structures that I considered, the Transamerica ‘pyramid’ seems to be the most aerodynamic,” he states reasonably. “With its inherent streamlined design and the high energy level of our team, I think we can win the race.”

Joining Paul in constructing a replica of the popular polyhedron are attorney Suzan Canli, human resources consultant Simon LehBohn, and registered nurse and graduate student Cynthia Mather. All of the pit crew members are in the neighborhood of 40 years old, and Paul has already seen 50, which makes them some of the more “seasoned” contenders in the race lineup. But Paul feels that he and his teammates are at the summit of their powers. He himself has peak experience from former employment at an auto racing school, and besides, he says pointedly, “We live by the doctrine ‘age and treachery will overcome youth and skill.’” With a sharp hint toward the team’s skit, he continues, “Expect palms, great hats, bangles, and The Bangles from Team Pyramid Power – we’re aspiring to the pinnacle of the podium!”
