Honor Roller
Garage Headquarters: Danville, CA
Driver: James Martin
Mechanics: Scott Blake, Bryan Montalvo, Andy Littig
Nuts and Bolts:
The Honor Roller racer is completely sponsored by businesses in the Danville and Alamo area of California, but you’d be forgiven if you mistook it as a vehicle from Springfield. Teammates Scott Blake, Andy Littig, James Martin, and Bryan Montalvo are building their ride to look like the soapbox car that was constructed by the pudgy, nerdy character of Martin in a memorable episode during the third season of “The Simpsons” TV show; and on race day they’ll all dress like the series’ iconic cartoon characters, even doing a little dance to music from “The Simpsons Movie.”
As silly as these four buddies may seem when they’re in character, they’re serious as a donut-induced heart attack when it comes to contending on Dolores Street. “We’re building our car from the ground up, completely from scratch,” says James, a bar manager who will serve as the team’s driver. “The primary components are aluminum and fiberglass.” From a top-secret Danville garage, Bryan, who works as a product designer and attends the Academy of Art University when he’s not assuming the role of team captain, adds, “Our biggest challenge will be coming in at or under the weight restriction, but with high energy, a great car, The Simpsons, and our friends in Danville and Alamo behind us – yes, I think we will win!”
