Nuts and Bolts:

Otute Akiti, Denise Andersen, Neil Andersen, Sean Cusack, Matt Pfeiffer, and Norma Tom are the only team of “chemistry nerds” in the Red Bull Soapbox Race. And while you can take the chemist out of the lab, you can’t completely take the lab out of the chemist; which is why, if you visit Dolores Park on October 18, you’ll be treated to the sight of a group of monster rodents sending a scientist down the track in a gargantuan hamster wheel.

“We were inspired to make the world a better, happier place,” says Sean, tongue firmly in cheek, “and to make sure that the new utopia includes a hamster wheel. This car will kick so much ass that you’ll swear it was made from the soul of Chuck Norris himself.” Those are bold words coming from the captain of a team dressed in adorable fur suits, but then, these aren’t your stereotypical staid scientists. “I think we were all separated at birth and raised by wolves, then just happened to get into chemistry and find each other by working at the same company,” Sean comments. “We all laughed hysterically at the wreckage from past races on YouTube, and if the videos are any indication, making it past the first ten feet of the course without tipping over or laughing ourselves to pieces will be our most difficult challenge!”
