Deuces Wild
Garage Headquarters: Swampscott, MA
Driver: Dan Baker
Mechanics: Eric Gemme, Adam Eschner, Will Thiel, Rafael Dionello
Nuts and Bolts:
Just because a group of young men get amped enough to hurl a homemade racer down a steep descent in an attempt to vanquish competitors in front of thousands of screaming people doesn’t mean that they don’t have a sensitive side. Take team from Swampscott, Massachusetts, who will be launching a racer called “Deuces Wild.” Sure, they look macho, but listen to the “Hill Haiku” they’ve composed:
This hill…crazy big
What poor decision making
I’m dead, I’m so dead
Poignant, isn’t it? But if Dan Baker, Rafael Dionello, Adam Eschner, Eric Gemme, and Will Thiel bring a tear to your eye on October 13, rest assured it’ll be from laughter. They’re planning on driving a bathtub racer with a toilet sidecar, both of which will be fully manned. “Our co-pilot will calmly walk to the toilet, drop his pants, sit down, and begin reading his morning paper,” says Baker, the captain of this outrageous crew. “The pilot, meanwhile, will be undressing to get in the tub and drive!” Flesh-colored body suits (and a rock ‘n’ roll cover of the song “Rubber Ducky”) will keep the skit G-rated. Now all these guys have to do is decide which teammate gets the honor of sitting on the throne.
