First Step - select a team:

Team Wild Things

Garage Headquarters: Oak View, CA

Driver: Angie Chong

Mechanics: Jason Moore, Theresa Taylor, Ashley Biggins, Dustin Meeks

Nuts and Bolts:

Having finished school fairly recently, Team Wild Things aren’t exactly flush with cash for building materials. They don’t even have a garage to use as a construction site. But they’re intensely inventive, seriously crafty, and they have use of a patio that’s great as long as the weather holds. “We make up for what we don’t have with resourceful, creative ideas that get the job done – this team is like the craft mafia,” smiles team captain Angelica Chong. “Coupled with an awesome cart design and hand-crafted costumes, we’ll have a deadly cuteness factor that will melt the hearts of even the toughest gearheads!”

Angie used to race BMX and holds a motorcycle license – needless to say, she’ll be the driver. She works as a graphic artist, web designer, and photographer, which is how she met her teammates Ashley Biggins, Jason Moore, and Theresa Taylor. Their entry was inspired by Maurice Sendak’s beloved book “Where the Wild Things Are.” Angie comments, “We have very active imaginations and wanted to bring this story to life, but in an unexpected context. We decided to build a small sailboat like the one that transports Max to meet the wild things.” The metalworking skills of a fifth team member, Dustin Meeks, have been a big help in developing the structure, and the whole crew is pitching in. Angie notes, “We’re putting our heart and souls into this. We hope to bring our enthusiasm to the crowd with big smiles, lots of laughs, and the fastest soapbox car in the West!”
