Nuts and Bolts:
Racing fans, we apologize. We like to keep you abreast of all the latest Red Bull Soapbox Race news, and we know you want details about every team on the roster. But Team Pole Position is a mystery. Every time we try to pin them down on their theme, they dance away from us. Naturally, we assumed the name “Pole Position” was a throw down to the other competitors, a boast that this team from the Santa Clarita Valley will be the fastest in qualifying heats. But, then the Pole Position captain responded, “Seriously, I don’t think it’s possible to have less racing experience than our team has.” His lack of ego was refreshing, but hardly a show of bravado. Next we thought, A-ha! Maybe they’re proud of their ancestry! Maybe they’re Polish! So we carefully studied their names for a clue: Oscar Gonzalez…Eric Abraham…Mark Dutcher… Roberto Martinez…Brad Harrison… Hmmmmmm. There goes that theory.
Our other guesses were equally off the mark: North Pole? Hardly. Flagpole? Nope. Pole vault? Polecat? Poleax? Non, nein, nyet. When we begged them for some hints, the teammates told us that in real life, they pursue professions including actor, screenwriter, production artist, and studio manager – and that they’re planning a special soapbox appearance by a talented newcomer with a name that we didn’t quite catch (it sounded oddly like Poleena Pouritzalloverya). The team members have asked Miss Pouritzalloverya to be copilot, assuring her that their vehicle is equipped with the latest in roll bars and that a costume isn’t necessary. Sorry we can’t tell you any more, fans. We’re stripped of ideas.
