Killer Grillers
Garage Headquarters: Bell Gardens, CA
Driver: Robert Morales
Mechanics: Adrian Gonzalez, Oscar Ocosta, Carlos Alonso, Danny Montoya
Nuts and Bolts:
The members of Team Killer Grillers are employees at Energized Distribution LLC in Bell Gardens, just ten miles southeast of Los Angeles and some of the most notoriously finicky eaters on the planet. What a difference ten miles can make. Instead of, say, macrobiotic munchies prepared by a personal chef, the guys at Energized Distribution go for homey fare they can cook themselves – something that will stick to their ribs. (Mmmmmmmm… ribs…) Oscar Acosta, Carlos Alonso, Adrian Gonzalez, Danny Montoya, and Robert Morales enjoy grilling so much that their soapbox pit will also be a barbecue pit.
“We work very hard but love to have fun at the same time,” says Oscar, who notes that the team’s favorite barbeque delicacy is carne asada tacos. “Our inspiration for designing a barbecue grill soapbox car came from family and friends gathering in the backyard during the summer, eating lots of food and having a good time.” The teammates, who range in age from 28 to 39, are constructing their car at a Temple City garage owned by their buddy Tony Macias. As a mechanic, Tony is a handy addition to the Energized Distribution crew, and besides, he loves good food as much as they do. The whole team hopes that spectators will appreciate the fun family atmosphere of their downtown barbecue bash (including mariachi music!); and they’d especially love to take home the People’s Choice Award. “We’re a very close group of friends that help one another and push each other to achieve our goals,” Oscar shares. “Winning as a team means everything to us.”
