Driver: Mark Laken

Mechanics: Jeff Hosea, Ryan Wagner, David Fox, Jim Horiike

Nuts and Bolts:

Andrew Fox, David Fox, Jim Hoericke, Jeff Hosea, and Mark Laken have an appetite for adventure, and they were quick to identify the Red Bull Soapbox Race as something they could sink their teeth into. The man they’ll be, um, “honoring” with their homemade race car had an appetite, also – one that made him a Colorado legend. The five friends will be taking a bite out of history as they field an entry called “Alferd Packer and the Rolling Bones,” inspired by the infamous prospector who was tried for cannibalism.

“Some might call him a visionary, others a madman,” states Mark, the team’s captain. “We think he was both, but mainly he was a cannibal that fed on the members of his gold mining gang.” Mark and his teammates are feeding off each other, too – or at least, off each other’s ideas. With jobs in fields including engineering and airplane mechanics, they have plenty of skills to share during their construction meetings in Mark’s Fort Collins garage. The team members originally met years ago through a Volkswagen Bus motoring club, so despite their nineteenth-century theme, their overall presentation will incorporate a bus and rock ‘n’ roll music. “We are determined to entertain by being the fastest, most rockingest, gold minin’, bus drivin’, cannibal fronted racin’ team that the crowd has ever seen,” Mark crows. “We will eat the competition up!”
