Liver? I hardly know her!
Garage Headquarters: Denver, CO & Flagstaff, AZ
Driver: Aaron Bell
Mechanics: J. Allen Bell, Matt Dunlop, Molly Thompson
Nuts and Bolts:
Only one team at the Denver Red Bull Soapbox Race will have the audacity, the temerity, and the visionary perspicacity to contend in a piece of oversized organ tissue. (No, not THAT organ.) Get acquainted with “Liver? I Hardly Know Her!” – an unconventional group who will pay tribute to the (until now) most underappreciated organ in the human body.
The primary instigators in this adventure are Aaron and J. Allen Bell. Better known as The Brothers Bell, the duo are responsible for the popular satirical website The Scoop News, as well as cartoons, comic books, and short comedy sketches and films. (Alert your local film festivals. They’re shooting their entire Soapbox build for a “big-ass documentary.”) Joining the bilious racing pursuit are medical engineer Matt Dunlop and construction worker Molly Thompson. To launch their gigantic gland, the four teammates will dress as icons of alcohol marketing: a certain ship’s captain who’s fond of rum, a beloved American Revolutionary patriot who shamelessly shills for beer, and of course, that blonde with the big, uh, steins. “I guess the race means a chance for a good time hanging out with friends doing something constructive and awesomely fun,” Aaron says in a rare pensive moment. Then, back to “normal,” he adds, “It also gives us a chance to spread our unique word with the world. That word? It’s ‘Batango.’”
