Mummy's Revenge
Garage Headquarters: Victor, NY
Driver: Randy Ryon
Mechanics: Bob Ryon, Doug Ryon, Dave D'Angelantonio, Kevin Kirk
Nuts and Bolts:
Bob Ryon knows that his team needs to build a racer “that is fast in corners and straight-aways, while still looking cool and outrageous.” The outrageous part shouldn’t be a problem. “King Tut’s tomb was our inspiration,” Bob says. “It will be made of wood and fiberglass, maybe some solid gold, if it’s not too heavy.”
The fascination with Tutankhamen goes back to the team’s participation in Red Bull Soapbox Providence 2007. “We had the fastest car,” Bob laments, “but crashed badly in the last turn. Hence our team name.” While deciding how to exact their revenge against the soapbox gods, Bob and company decided to appeal for help to the immortal young ruler of Egypt. Bob, a two-time Iraq war veteran, would have you believe that the team “dug up this mummy in Egypt on an excavation seven years ago, and we’ve been looking for the right opportunity to bring him to life.” Some people (called “archeologists”) would beg to differ, saying that Howard Carter discovered Tut’s mummy in 1922. Details, details. The real question: Will King Tut look favorably upon the Ryons and their teammates, or will the undead Egyptian pharaoh condemn the Mummy’s Revenge team to another disappointing brush with Red Bull Soapbox greatness?
