Nuts and Bolts:

At this year’s Red Bull Soapbox Race in Atlanta, fans can enjoy two teams based on the movie “Animal House.” Fittingly, one of these contenders actually comes from a fraternity. “The members of Team Animal House are brothers of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Eta Gamma Chapter, at Georgia State University,” says Greg Jarvis, captain of the effort. “The inspiration was to build a soapbox racer that epitomized the stereotypical representation of a fraternity.”

As seniors, Greg and his teammates Christian Aguirre, Topher Evans, and David Snell possess an extensive and authentic background in frat life, and they are here to tell you that not all of the stereotypes are true. (A few of them, maybe…) But they’re willing to laugh at the clichés, just the same. “Animal House is a classic representation of college. It might even allow some people in the audience to embrace the nostalgia they have for their college days,” Greg states. The men from Sigma Nu are no strangers to competition, having contended in the Red Bull Paper Wings worldwide paper plane contest earlier this year, and they’re determined to craft “the fastest Soapbox racer this side of the Mississippi.” Greg adds that they’re looking to make an impact on spectators as well as the stopwatch, noting, “We expect to win the crowd by wooing their hearts with our incredible energy and excitement…and our imminent victory as we cross the Finish Line.”
