First Step - select a team:

The Beer Connoisseur™ Magazine

Garage Headquarters: Atlanta, GA

Driver: Christopher “Killa” Miller

Mechanics: Matthew “Colorado” Keaton, Tim “Don’t Call Me Leroy” Miller, Lynn “Not A Girl” Davis, Collins “Not So” Young

Nuts and Bolts:

Christopher Miller and Lynn Davis believe that Oktoberfest should be a month-long holiday. They’re pretty darn enthusiastic about St. Patrick’s Day, too. These fellows know more about hops than 99 percent of the population, and they tend to wax rhapsodic about “the perfect pour.” Together, they publish The Beer Connoisseur™ Magazine and beerconnoisseur.com, where readers can find beer events, beer reviews, beer tastings, beer clubs, beer blogs, and just about everything else for the beer-loving community.

Their soapbox car is shaped like a bottle of fine champagne. Just kidding! The racer that Christopher and Lynn are constructing with their buddies Matthew Keaton, Tim Miller, and Collins Young looks like the copper “mash tun” that’s key to the beer-brewing process. “We’re building a steel frame and will use thin paper-board for the sides and top,” Christopher reports, adding that the paper-board will be painted to produce a copper-like patina. “We won’t be the first box down the hill, but our design will be beautiful in its elegant simplicity.” The car is just another in a long line of projects for this tight crew, who have known each other for 15 years. Three of the teammates, for example, served in the military and even built a log cabin together in Alaska. “Getting consensus may be difficult – we’re all very strong, opinionated leaders,” Christopher acknowledges, “but this is a unique way to show off our ‘handy’ skills and have fun.”
