First Step - select a team:

Team Ludafish

Garage Headquarters: Mobile, AL

Driver: Rhys Sharp

Mechanics: Matt LeMond, Jason “McFly” Greer, Amy Power Morris

Nuts and Bolts:

Rhys Sharp contended in Denver’s Red Bull Soapbox Race and Tampa’s Red Bull Flugtag human-powered flight competition, but both times he came home empty handed. This year, however, he thinks he has come up with a real “money maker” of a concept for the soapbox car he’ll be driving in Atlanta. “The inspiration was Mr. ATL himself: LUDA!” says Rhys’s pal and old Flugtag teammate Matt LeMond. Matt is referring, of course, to Ludacris, the rapper and actor who first found fame in Atlanta. Matt, Rhys, and buddies Jason “McFly” Greer and Amy Power Morris are building a car that looks like…Well, to be honest, it’s a humongous fish whose face looks just like Ludacris.

The four Ludafish teammates would love to take advantage of the Red Bull Soapbox Race rule allowing up to five teammates on the track, but they won’t let just anyone onto the team. To turn their quartet into a quintet, they’re thinking of trying to enlist none other than Ludacris himself. In the meantime, they’re applying their various skills to developing their project. Rhys, a graphic artist, is mastermind of their racer design, while Matt and Jason – both DJs – are putting together a choice mash-up of Ludacris hits, which they’ll play back during their skit. (Unless, you know, Luda shows up to sing them himself.) Quoting the rapper, Matt warns the other teams: “We’re coming for your #1 spot…scheme scheme plot plot!”
