Running of the Bulls

Driver: Keith Harmon

Mechanics: Greg Amell, Bill Carney, Pamela Walls, Brandy Flowers

Nuts and Bolts:

For a few exciting moments on August 29, Tenth Street in Atlanta will resemble a cobbled corridor in Pamplona, as a group from Tennessee re-creates the running of the bulls in the form of a charging soapbox car. This bull-headed crew – Greg Amell, Bill Carney, Keith Harmon, and Donnie Walls – can usually be found corralled at the 3 Crow Bar in East Nashville. Bill is a co-owner, Keith is the manager, Greg is a bartender, and Donnie (a baker by profession) is married to the establishment’s bar manager. Hanging around on the garden patio after work one night, and chowing down on 3 Crow’s excellent pizza and steamed deli-style sandwiches, they were just punchy enough to dream up a racecar that looks like a man being chased by a bodacious bovine.

“We’re building it in Donnie’s garage,” explains Bill. As the team’s captain, he acknowledges, “We’re our own worst enemies, and the primary components of our racer will be guilt and bad decisions” Then he adds with bravado, “Nevertheless, there’s really no suitable competition to threaten us.” Such a statement may be a red flag to the other competitors, but this team from Tennessee is too stoked to worry. “We at the 3 Crow Bar are so proud to be part of a neighborhood with history and tradition,” Bill states. “We’re just trying to add the next chapter to the story.”
