No matter what happens to Brian Denis, Matt Denis, Ryan Mueller, and Derek Oxford on race day, they’ve probably already experienced worse. Like the time Ryan got his ear – yes, his ear – shut in a car door so horrifically that he required plastic surgery. “He was racing me for shotgun,” Brian grins. “Our motto is ‘Go fast and be stupid.’”

He’s exaggerating, of course. Well, not about the “go fast” part: Derek races Porsches for fun. But these teammates are far from clueless. In fact, they’re all managers. Matt and Brian (who are brothers, by the way), are both managers in the construction industry, while Derek is a business development manager for a company that provides water and energy solutions. Finally, Ryan manages – and this may be the most difficult task of all – his audacious moustache. These savvy contenders, while based outside Atlanta, are even smart enough to realize how to win the love of the city’s spectators on race day: their car takes the form of a Braves hat. Above all, though, they have a keen perception of what really matters in life: family and friends. (Brian and Derek are proud fathers, and Derek even has another baby due a week before the competition!) Brian says, “Life’s fun, so take some time to share with friends doing something outside the routine – like a Soapbox race.”
